Here is a great presentation on the upcoming Consumer JRE. For JavaFX to succeed, the Consumer JRE has to solve the following issues with the current runtime:

• Large download size
• Start up speed of applications
• Simpler runtime update

The presentation shows how these issues are solved.

And finally, last but not least, the look and feel is also addressed. A new and very nice looking L&F called Nimbus will be available with the Consumer JRE.
