I love this LinkedIn post by Kevin Chiu, where Kevin shares what made DigitalOcean grow so quickly. Kevin Chiu was the Head of Sales and RevOps at DigitalOcean.
I especially love the first point about Radical Product Market Fit:
1️⃣ Radical PMF (Product Market Fit). You’re seeing a lot of this come up now in this market when budgets are being axed, valuations being cut, & layoffs everywhere. When capital is expensive, you’re able to tell the real companies from the fake companies.
DigitalOcean had an incredible opportunity. Amazon was too busy with the Cloud Wars against Microsoft & Google Cloud. They were all too busy focusing on larger customers & scale.
No one was focused on the “individual” developer or small SMBs. Individuals & small SMBs aren’t the sexiest category to investors though keep in mind cloud infrastructure spend SMB had customers paying $100k a month… that’s an enterprise deal for many orgs in traditional B2B SaaS.
