At the TechCrunch Disrupt hackathon and conference a number of people asked if Appery.io is like Parse (acquired by Facebook)? Appery.io is not like Parse. There is some overlap as Appery.io does provide backend as a service (BaaS) such as Cloud Database, Push Notifications, and soon Server Code but that’s just one of the Appery.io platform components.
The other major component is cloud-based visual UI builder for creating HTML5, jQuery Mobile and PhoneGap apps (Parse and other backend as service provider are not offering UI tooling).
Appery.io is a cloud platform that provides:
- Visual and source UI development tools (HTML5, jQuery Mobile, PhoneGap)
- Backend Services or BaaS (Database, Push Notifications, Server Code)
- Visual data binding tools for connecting to any 3rd party APIs, plus API plug-ins (pre-built services to popular APIs such as Salesforce, Foursqaure)
Update June 26: Title updated to Appery.io Is Not (Just) Backend as a Service (BaaS) Provider
